Syracuse University Wayfinding System

Syracuse University needed to a comprehensive wayfinding program for the campus based on graphic design guidelines designed by Pentagram. The program needed to meet the highest legibility standards while being durable enough for the weather extremes of winter snow and hot summers.

IDS worked with EDR to form a design and planning stakeholder team to implement the program. The stakeholder team developed a design build strategy resulting in guidelines and bid documentation for final implementation.

The team designed three concepts that resulted in a final direction approved by the project stakeholders. From this approach the team worked to develop a final design based on mockups and legibility research to meet city and DOT approval. A destination assessment resulted in a final message and location schedule. Final documentation of the final design resulted in a bid package and guidelines implemented and installed by IDS.
