Challenge

IDS was preselected by Gallina Development to work with architects SWBR to design and develop two sets of gateway signage that prominently establish the brand for the Innovation Square collaborative student housing complex at street level.

Strategy

Use our expertise and proficiency in specialty illumination to meet the campus architect and designer’s vision.

Approach

IDS used 3D modelling for all sign mock-ups to ensure compliance with the architect’s vision of glowing reverse-illuminated letters and symbols to form the Innovation Square logo. The digital sign renderings resulted in replication of the signs to near exactness.

The Illuminated Gateway Identity Sign Process

IDS followed the approach below to deliver new illuminated gateway signs at Innovation Square.

Plan

  • Produce illuminated signage of complex’s logo

Design

  • Utilize 3D modelling to create near-exact prototypes of the signs
  • Client was supplied with an iPad-controlled system to create a vast number of colored lighting options

Fabricate

  • Custom fabricate reverse-RGB illuminated channel letters with a complete lighting control system
  • Integrate additional structural integrity into each of the sign’s letters for added strength and stability

Install

  • Coordinate installation of the signs onto granite-faced walls
