Challenge

Henkel Corporation, a leading manufacturer of well-known beauty care brands like Dial® soap and Persil, approached IDS with a need for brand signage for their new expansion which included a $17.3 million investment in new equipment and technology at Henkel’s Geneva, NY facility.

Strategy

IDS provided a strategic plan for possible opportunities including creating thin profile illuminated signs and the use of solar powered energy supply to radically cut down on electrical installation costs to remote sign locations. IDS also established tight project timelines and contingency for delays.

IDS developed full fabrication documentation including building connection details that met the heightened review requirements of the city planners and engineers. In addition IDS devised a lighting legibility study using 3D modeled prototypes.

Approach

All sign elements were built in-house in constant communication with the client. A prototype was also tested to show the illumination approach. Delays based on waiting for critical materials were also relayed to the client to ensure that timelines could be adjust to implement locations with the most need.

IDS managed the approval process and installed all the signs including the solar illumination systems.
