Challenge
Alfred University officials and faculty requested their new campus sign program reflect their 185-year tradition. The challenge was to blend the University’s historic location and heritage into a complete contemporary gateway and wayfinding system.
Strategy
Adopt a receptive approach that recognizes the college history while addressing the needs for a well-designed, easy-to-maintain and updateable sign system.
Approach
IDS conducted a detailed site photo survey of the campus’ existing signage. This was followed with a collection of design prototypes that feature the University’s color palette and crest in a variety of modular frame types. With careful consideration of key stakeholders and faculty, IDS developed a complete sign family for application across campus.
